I just can't seem to do much of anything right. Now, before you go thinking that this is one of those posts that complain about love gone wrong or something, let me just tell you right up front, it's not. Although it is pretty sad, I think.
So my mom leaves me in charge of only two of her batches of sugar cookies that she's making for V-Day while she goes to pick up the kids from piano. She tells me that this first batch is almost done, and to just listen for the timer so I can take them out. Step number two: Put the pre-cut, heart-shaped cookies of the next batch onto the pan I just took out, and set the timer. She should be back by the time they were done. Easy enough, right?
Welll....I check the timer, and see that there's about six minutes or so left before I have to take the cookies out. I decided I had some time to kill, so I went to go read for a bit, telling myself I had a watch on, so I'd know when to get up, even if I couldn't hear the timer. By the time I remembered to check the clock again, it was almost twenty minutes later!! Yes, I freaked out, and ran for the kitchen. Luckily the kitchen wasn't burning or anything like that, but the poor cookies I had been in charge of were cracked and burned brown! And no, I won't post any pictures of them, it's too sad.
Oh, and it gets even better: this was only step one of my instructions, remember? When I went to go put the cookies on for the next batch, they didn't seem to want to come off the wax paper, so I resorted to using brute force. By the time I actually got them into the pan, they more closely resembled shapeless lumps than hearts. I knew I'd had the hot pad out for a reason, I just couldn't seem to remember that reason when I grabbed the pan to put it back into the oven. I don't think it occurred to me that something metal that had just come out of a hot oven would still be hot moments later, I guess. As a result, I now have a red imprint of the pan's handle on my hand. Yeah, not fun.
Oh well, I guess like we were discussing in class yesterday, people can learn from others' experiences, but a lot of the time, they end up learning through their own. Hopefully the rest of you are a bit smarter than me and learn from my experience. I just feel bad for those poor little cookie hearts!

Awww! How sad! *hugs*
You'll do better next time! I believe in you!
haha - i've grabbed a hot pan like that before. and q even told me not to! *sigh* oh well. hands heal, huh??
:)
Yep, luckily they do heal. Oddly enough, I used my right hand, which is not my dominant hand. So even if it didn't heal for a while, I'd be okay :D
