I SO need to post more often. So many things get lost in the time between blogs that sometimes never get remembered. Maybe in the end, they really aren't all that important. Still, I finally wrote in my journal the other day (okay, so it's been a week now), and our lesson today was on keeping a record, so I guess that means it's time for another post.
BEWARE: THIS IS A LONG ONE! IF YOU'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO READ IT ALL, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD BIT OF TIME ON YOUR HANDS OR YOU CAN READ SUPER FAST.
Quick update: Let's see, what's been going on since early April? Well, there was Morp, the dance where Cami and Karly finally got out and asked people to a school dance! In my opinion it was pretty darn fun, except for the fact that we were running an hour or so late, had to run around to people's houses to get food, not to mention picking people up, and this whole time my poor date was waiting for us at the school for pictures, and then the picture people were late anyway, so we just ate dinner first. I'm don't remember how many times I apologized to him that night! By the time it was all over, though, I think it's safe to say that everyone had a good time. :)
Spring break I went to Seattle...Yeah, not as wet as I thought it would be. Maybe we were just there for a rare sunny week. The Experience Music Project was pretty cool, and there was an entire exhibit just on guitars and how they've evolved over the last 120 years or so. There was also a Jimi Hendrix exhibit, and one on the evolution of music in general. I think I was spending a little too long in the guitar gallery, because my family had to come drag me out to catch up with the rest of the group. There's an audio tour on iPod nanos, so while you were looking at an instrument you could hear what it sounded like at the same time. Upstairs was all hands on stuff, like learning how to play different instruments, having jam sessions, and performing with your own rock band (sort of). I didn't get to the Sci Fi part of the place because I spent so long in the EMP, but that's mainly what I went for, anyway. Definitely recommend the place; if it weren't so heavily rock-oriented, I'd suggest going there during band tour.
Wow, I can write a LOT, especially when I don't mean to. :P
What else...Oh PROM, duh. Good times, good times... :) I got a roll of cookie dough from getting asked (yay for Coney's! ;) ), and then Joyce and I pretty much transported a mini-refrigerator containing frozen custard and an answer on possibly the hottest day of the year (up to that point)! Our day date was going to see Wolverine on Saturday morning, and we got there almost late so the only room practically was the very front row. Previews with onscreen words were killer. :P My dad and brother were both jealous that I saw that movie before they did, though. ;) There were 22 couples in our group (no joke), so we ate dinner in the cultural hall of a church building in order to fit everyone, but it was decorated all cute with lights and a flower path up to the doors. The steak and the pasta stuff was quite yum, too. :)
Gosh, we took SO many pictures though: unbeknownst to me until I got home after the dance, it was Tyler's first date, so his mom came over to my house to take pictures when he picked me up, and my uncle was over taking pictures along with the rest of my fam. My grandma from Hawaii was in town too, visiting and helping me get ready, so we had quite a few people around. Then we had to go take pictures at his dad's house, where he'd conveniently left the corsage. (We solved the missing corsage thing by simply hiding my wrists in the first set of pictures.) After meeting his dad (and re-meeting his older brother), we went to dinner, where they took pictures during and after dinner. There is one massive picture of everyone on the steps...kinda want a copy of that... Anyway, then we went to the school to take "real" pictures, and ON TO THE DANCE (Courthouse)! There was a promenade thing where couples would come down some stairs and get announced and all, and parents were invited to that, so of course, that meant MORE PICTURES. I was literally seeing stars by that point. After the dance, we went with Allen and Jen to get Frosties, but then they drove off before we got out of the drive thru, so we just drove around by the park and ate them. Well, I did, anyway; Tyler was driving. Things worked out just fine overall, and I for one had a very sweet time. :)
Junior year is over, and my life seems to be going in an entirely different direction than I probably envisioned in junior high. For example, when I first heard the high school choirs, I thought they sounded pretty good but I knew that I'd never be a part of that because I was a band person.
Oops. I guess I'm a hybrid.
Not only did I make it into A Cappella, but I made it into next year's Chamber Choir as well. In addition to this, I'll have both Wind Symphony and Jazz Band, which leaves half of my schedule for the "required" classes. Something like that.
So, contrary to my little fourteen-year-old vision of my high school life, I'm becoming immersed in choir, I've taken AP Music and an honors math class, am no longer involved with visual arts or drama, and fortunately, I got to take ballroom. However, after thinking for the past year that I was going to be on ballroom company my senior year, in looking at my schedule I can see that it's just not going to work, even if I could've made it. Since I still need to fill a CTE credit next year (interior design), who knows, my life could be going in another different and interesting direction.
Another thing that seems to change all the time is my friends. Not to say that I get rid of my old friends, but that I gain new ones every year. This year it was mostly choir people that either I met or became better acquainted with. For example, on my first day in choir, I found that my assigned seat was between Derek and Brianna B. I knew who they both were (Derek had kind of gone out with my friend in junior high, and Brianna was on yearbook the same year I was, although I pretty much never saw her), but I still felt super awkward. By the end of the year, though, Derek was one of my best buds in there, and Brianna and I laughed and joked so much (maybe a little too much for class)! I also met Julie this year, and even though I've only really gotten to know her the last three or four months, it seems like we've been friends for years! I'm really sad to see her move. :'( Why, Maple Mountain (or wherever), WHY?! :( I could go on: other people from choir, English, seminary, dance, even math. All in all, it's been a good year.
Graduation this year was kind of surreal for me; last year seemed more real, I think, even though it still wasn't my class. Maybe going too many years in a row is not good for me! Oh well. Next year's for real! :)
Oh yeah, one more thing: CONGRATULATIONS Brayden for finally getting your mission call to ARMENIA!! :D And thanks for inviting me to be there, it was pretty awesome. I'm so excited for you! :)
K I REALLY have to go to bed now. I'm supposed to get up early to run around in the morning before I get my feet all cut up at noon. Bleh. I don't see how doing that is going to help them hurt less, but I guess I'm not the one with the medical degree.
Until my next post (whenever that may be...). Happy summer, friends! :)
(P.S. If you made it all the way to the end, HOORAY for you! Leave a comment to celebrate ;) )
